Auto-Marking: What It Saves and Where Teachers Still Win
ReferenceAsk a teacher what exam week costs and the answer is rarely proctoring — it is marking. Seven of YouGrade's eleven question types mark themselves on submit: single and multi-answer MCQs, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, matching, ordering and numerical answers.
That removes the mechanical bulk. What remains is the part software should not judge: short and long answers, comprehension and labelled work. These land in a marking queue grouped by subject, where teachers award marks per question — optionally against the paper's model answers — and can be limited to their own classes by the school admin.
Students who prefer paper are covered too: answers can be photographed on a phone and flow into the same queue.
The result is a realistic split — the computer handles what is objective, the teacher handles what needs a professional eye, and the final score combines both automatically.
